Dr. Ciaran Seath

Ciaran grew up in Rosemarkie, a small seaside village in the highlands of Scotland. He moved south to study chemistry at the University of Strathclyde and received his MChem degree in 2014. During this time, he spent a year at GlaxoSmithKline in Upper Merion, PA working on a range of hit-to-lead programs in medicinal chemistry. Staying at the same institution, Ciaran did his doctoral research with Dr. Allan Watson as a Carnegie Scholar, working on chemoselective methods in transition metal catalysis. In the fall of 2017, Ciaran moved to Emory University in Atlanta to work with Prof. Nathan Jui on reductive photoredox catalysis. Fearing a second summer in the south, he moved north to the MacMillan lab in the spring of 2019. Outside of the lab, Ciaran enjoys rugby (playing and watching), travelling, and the beach.

Fun Facts

• Despite the absence of any natural ability, Ciaran is an avid karaoke singer. His go-to artist is Meat Loaf.
• Ciaran supports the mighty Glasgow Warriors rugby team and watches games whenever he has the chance.
• During his time in Atlanta, Ciaran fell in love with hot sauce, and now puts it on everything.
