Dr. Niels Bisballe

B.Pharm., University of Copenhagen, 2014

M.Sc.Pharm., University of Copenhagen, 2016

Ph.D., University of Copenhagen, 2020

Niels was born and raised in central Copenhagen. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, Niels decided that he needed more chemistry in his life and began working on EAAT inhibitors in the Bunch group. He also visited the Mongin lab at Université de Rennes 1 in France for 6 months working on deprotometallation of heterocycles. In his search for a Ph.D. position, Niels was given the opportunity to work on the synthesis and characterization of fluorescent triangulenium dyes and related helicenes in the research lab of Prof. Bo W. Laursen. During a brief stay at the Vilar group at Imperial College London, Niels was further involved in the fluorescent labeling of G-quadruplex DNA. Working on the interface of light and organic chemistry brought Niels to the MacMillan lab in early 2022, after some delay by the pandemic. Niels enjoys running, rollerskating and riding his bike.
