Guy Pillon

B. Sc., University of Wisconsin Madison, 2022

Guy was born in New York and grew up in both the city and upstate, while having some fortunate opportunities to conduct high school research in total synthesis and organometallics. After moving to Wisconsin for his undergraduate studies, Guy joined the lab of Prof. Tehshik Yoon and worked on a number of photoredox catalysis projects, leading to an ongoing love of photochemistry (and cold weather). Despite this, Guy then moved to San Francisco for 2 years to work with the process chemistry group at Genentech, studying reaction scaleup and process development for several small-molecule drug programs. Finally, Guy decided to return to pursue his PhD studies with the MacMillan group in 2025. Outside of lab, Guy enjoys practicing guitar, (poorly) speedrunning video games, and exploring Princeton and surrounds on foot.

Fun Facts
  • Guy's chemistry journey began with a number of ill-conceived amateur garage chemistry experiments, which in hindsight he does not condone.
  • Despite currently only playing guitar, Guy has a musical background and played several instruments (mostly oboe) throughout high school.
  • Guy briefly held a niche speedrunning world record in an obscure video game, until it was beaten after 2 days.
