Dr. Qing An

Qing An was born in Gansu Province, China. In 2017, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Jilin University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in 2023 under the guidance of Professor Zhiwei Zuo at ShanghaiTech University and the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), where his research focused on light-driven selective functionalization of unactivated C–H bonds. Following his graduation, he continued investigating methane conversion at ShanghaiTech until joining the MacMillan Group. Beyond the lab, Qing enjoys photography and is always eager to explore new experiences.

Fun Facts

• In China's Anhui Province, there is a city called Anqing–so many people assume Qing An (An Qing) is from Anhui (though actually he's not!)
• Growing up, everyone always assumed Qing would go into humanities–chemistry was the unexpected twist in his story!
• Qing is obsessed with puzzle toys like the Nine Linked Rings and Hanayama metal puzzles–he’s even designing his own!
