Dr. Russell Smith

Ph.D., Genentech, San Francisco, 2020

Russell grew up among the hills of middle Tennessee, whence he learned the art of whiskey tasting and the manly sport of goblin hunting. He attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and worked in the lab of Prof. Shawn Campagna. He then came to Princeton in 2015 to join the MacMillan lab and work on metallaphotoredox-catalyzed cross-couplings. In his free time, Russell enjoys drinking, reading, and generally not doing things or stuff. He did go to Iceland recently, though, and that was pretty okay.

Fun Facts
  • He has no sense of smell.
  • He enjoys the opera and the symphony.
  • He plans to one day become supreme leader of small island nation inhabited solely by himself and his horde of pet iguanas.
