Dr. Saegun Kim

Saegun was born in Seoul, South Korea. He attended The Catholic University of Korea, where he completed a B.Sc. in chemistry. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in Pharmacy from Sungkyunkwan University, where he studied the synthetic methodology of bioactive compounds using a C-H bond activation strategy in the lab of Prof. In Su Kim. Saegun then moved to Philadelphia to start his first postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Gary Molander. During the first year of his postdoctoral fellow, he studied photoredox chemistry and performed the Acylboration of [1.1.1]propellane, in addition to some DNA encoded library. Motivated to learn more, he joined the MacMillan group in June 2023 as a postdoctoral fellow.

Fun Facts
  • Saegun likes playing sports such as soccer, table tennis, billiards, and snowboarding. Usually, he has a strong desire to play soccer and snowboarding whenever he has a chance in every season.
  • As a teenager, he preferred to exercise or play musical instruments rather than studying. He was one of the members of the school’s orchestra as a drummer.
  • Recently, he started cooking more and more, in his home, and he has been enjoying it even though sometimes the results are tricky.
